Why We Exist
Bridging the gap between heartbreak and hope
When a child is diagnosed with cancer, the emotional toll on a family is immeasurable. But beyond the heartbreak, families face a crushing logistical burden — travel to get to the treating hospital, groceries while a parent stays bedside, and the impossible math of keeping a household together when everything has been turned upside down.
Silken Twine Charity was founded in September 2019 to bridge that gap. We provide direct financial assistance through grocery and gas gift cards, essential medical supplies and medicines, a memorial scholarship program, and a travel grant for cancer researchers.

Our Inspiration
Sophie's Story
Sophie Malaviya was a bright, loving child whose courageous battle with cancer inspired the founding of Silken Twine. In February 2015, Sophie created “Silken Twine” — a vibrant online journal documenting her experiences living with synovial sarcoma cancer.
Through her writing, Sophie wove together raw emotions with the threads of her life, candidly speaking about treatments, friendships, and coming of age amidst adversity. Her story is at the heart of everything we do — a reminder that even in the darkest moments, there is joy woven with silken twine.

How we help families
Through three core programs, we provide tangible support to families navigating the overwhelming journey of pediatric cancer.
Sustenance for Families
Grocery and gas gift cards to ease the financial burden on families spending long days at the hospital. Because no parent should have to choose between fuel and food while their child is in treatment.
Sophie Malaviya Memorial Scholarship
Tuition support for students who have battled pediatric cancer, helping them pursue their educational dreams and build the future they fought so hard to reach.
Travel Assistance Program
Bringing families together during hospital stays by covering travel costs. When a child is hospitalized far from home, being surrounded by loved ones can make all the difference.
